Flood destroyed over 250 houses in Jakusko local government area of Yobe State at the weekend.
The council chairman, Hon. Babangida Jaba, confirmed that over 250 houses were in the flood as a result of a heavy downpour.
According to residents of the affected areas, the incidence occurred mostly over the weekend following a heavy downpour which resulted in a serious flooding in the local government.
The downpour also destroyed many farmlands.
“We have to compile a comprehensive report on the disaster for onward submission to the federal and state government for necessary assistance to the victims,” Jaba aid.
Some of the victims complained that scores of household items were destroyed by the flood, while countless animals died in the flood.
The state commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Hajara Lawan, has called on both state and local governments to come to aid of the victims, noting that the affected areas were dire need of relief materials.
She appealed to the affected communities to exercise patience, as government would do every possible to assist them.
